Diffusion Live Patch
Max MSP Live Performance Patch
This patch was specifically developed for Diffusion for string quartet and live electronics, where it functions as an extension of the quartet’s harmonic language, spatially and timbrally expanding the ensemble through real-time electronic processing.
This live patch is primarily operated using a harmonizer and spectral delay. The feedback within the harmonizer infinitely expands the notes of each part in specified intervallic units, allowing sustained harmonic growth over time. Through this process, the acoustic harmonies produced by the original quartet are diffused and transformed into sounds with new spectral colors.
The harmonic structure in Diffusion is expanded through the harmonizer and spectral delay. The feedback played in the harmonizer infinitely expands the notes of each part in a specified interval unit. This method allows the acoustic harmonies created by the original quartet to spread into sounds with new colors.
For each harmonizer, the interval is to be shifted for each part, and the section is shifted through the harmonizer. The effect is expanded through feedback through a recursive circuit. The wet/dry ratio, feedback ratio, and delay rate are already set to preset values in the patch, and the composer or live electronic operator activates the cue for each measure specified in the score.
